Freezing pause
Apologies for the long pause in my skateboarding ethnography! I was on vacation, but that’s no excuse. A lot has happened in the past months, even though my skating progression took a temporary backseat. Despite the break, I’ve experienced three transformative moments worth sharing: I’ve been training slashers, discovered the stress-relieving power of the skateboarding community, and learned the value of giving to others to feel better about myself and life.

Embracing the Ups and Downs of Skateboarding
(Surf-)Skateboarding is a journey, not just a sport. Over the past few days, I’ve felt the exhilarating rush of progress. There were moments when everything clicked, and I believed I was finally getting the hang of it. My confidence soared as I executed movements with increasing ease, thinking I had finally conquered the learning curve. However, the last few days at the skatepark were a reminder that progress isn’t always linear.

Recently, I made the decision to publish posts on LinkedIn as part of my plan to engage with social media this year. During one of my recent discussions within a work group associated with the BW State in Germany, specifically focusing on Document Management Systems (DMS) programs in universities, I had an intriguing realization. The challenges arising from human difficulties in accepting or introducing technology that has the potential to disrupt traditional practices are multifaceted and I oft hear I can communicate and explain this state of affair in an understandable way.

There are few feelings as gratifying as inspiring someone else to learn skateboarding. Today, the day unfolded like any typical Monday, mirroring the weekend’s normalcy. However, I’m in the midst of redefining this “normal,” which now includes a four-wheeled wall and a wooden board for a roof.
